Note: The sequence of operations for removing and installing the VANOS actuators is different.
Removal of the right-hand VANOS intake and exhaust control units on cylinder bank 1–4 should be carried out in the same order as on bank 5–8, but it is necessary to take into account.
Remove the right eccentric shaft adjustment drive motor, the right cylinder head cover of the engine, unscrew all spark plugs 1–4, the fan housing and the right timing belt cover.
Turn the crankshaft by the central bolt in the direction of rotation to the TDC position of the end of the compression stroke in the 1st cylinder. In this case, the cam (left arrow, see Fig. 5.124) the exhaust valves of the 1st cylinder are inclined upwards. The camshaft cam of the intake valves is inclined downwards (right arrow).

The exhaust actuator on the cylinder side 1–4 has an additional metal clamp (3, Fig. 5.143) to drive a vacuum pump.

Assemble the engine.
