Replacing the pushrods on the intake side of the right cylinder head (BMW X5 E53)

            0

The technology for removing and installing the pushrod levers on the intake side of the right cylinder head is similar to the left head, but has its own characteristics associated with cylinder blocks 1–4.

Caution! The bearing caps of the camshafts of cylinders 1–4 and 5–8 cannot be interchanged.

Remove the right eccentric shaft drive motor, ignition coils for cylinders 1–4, right cylinder head cover, unscrew spark plugs for cylinders 1–4 and remove the right VANOS actuators on the intake and exhaust sides.

Caution! Turn the intake camshaft so that when removing the support bridge, the intermediate levers do not slip and damage the camshaft.

Turn the intake camshaft in the direction of rotation so that the cam of the 1st cylinder (arrow) is facing horizontally, as shown in Figure 5.137.

Turn the intake camshaft in the direction of rotation so that the cam of the 1st cylinder (arrow)…

The bearing caps of the intake camshaft on cylinder bank 1–4 are marked "LE1–LE5" and can be read from the intake side.

Note: Removal of intermediate levers should begin with the 4th cylinder, for cylinders 1–3 the actions are similar.

Turn the intake camshaft by the hexagon in the direction of rotation so that the cam of the 1st cylinder takes the inclined upper position (arrow), as shown in Figure 5.138. Marking (1) on the hexagon of the intake camshaft is located at the top.
