Caution! The bearing caps of the camshafts of cylinders 1–4 and 5–8 cannot be interchanged.
Remove the right eccentric shaft drive motor, ignition coils for cylinders 1–4, right cylinder head cover, unscrew spark plugs for cylinders 1–4 and remove the right VANOS actuators on the intake and exhaust sides.
Caution! Turn the intake camshaft so that when removing the support bridge, the intermediate levers do not slip and damage the camshaft.
Turn the intake camshaft in the direction of rotation so that the cam of the 1st cylinder (arrow) is facing horizontally, as shown in Figure 5.137.

The bearing caps of the intake camshaft on cylinder bank 1–4 are marked "LE1–LE5" and can be read from the intake side.
Note: Removal of intermediate levers should begin with the 4th cylinder, for cylinders 1–3 the actions are similar.
Turn the intake camshaft by the hexagon in the direction of rotation so that the cam of the 1st cylinder takes the inclined upper position (arrow), as shown in Figure 5.138. Marking (1) on the hexagon of the intake camshaft is located at the top.

Install the right-hand VANOS intake and exhaust actuators, screw in the spark plugs for cylinders 1–4, install the left-hand cylinder head cover, install the ignition coils for cylinders 1–4, install the right-hand eccentric shaft drive motor and assemble the engine.
