Heating and ventilation systems (BMW 5 Series E39)
1. Air supply to the windshield and side windows.
2. Air supply to the upper part of the body. The wheels allow you to smoothly open and close the air supply, and the levers provide a change in the direction of the air flow entering the cabin.
3. Air supply to the notes in the front part of the cabin. Similar air blowers are also available in the rear part of the cabin.
4. Temperature regulator for the left side of the passenger compartment.
5. Regulator of air distribution to the windows, upper body, legs. Any intermediate positions are possible.
6. Air supply regulator. Heating and ventilation operate when the fan is on.
7. Temperature controller for the right side of the passenger compartment.
8. Rear window heating switch.
9. Recirculation mode activation key.
Temperature

The driver and front passenger can select the desired temperature for their side of the cabin. The scale divisions serve as a guide when selecting the cabin temperature. It is advisable to set the temperature to 22°C. Once the vehicle starts moving, the selected temperature is set very quickly and maintained at a constant level.
Air distribution

You can direct the air entering the cabin to the windows, to the upper body and to the legs. It can be installed in all intermediate positions. If the air is directed towards the feet, then a small amount of air also flows to the windows to prevent them from fogging up. The "6 o'clock" position is recommended as a standard setting (see illustration).
Air supply

Smooth adjustment of air supply is provided. Heating and ventilation are more effective, the stronger the air supply. In position 0, the fan and heating are switched off. In position 0, the air supply can be completely stopped by pressing the recirculation mode key.
Rear window heating

When the rear window heating is on, the indicator lamp lights up. The rear window heating is switched off automatically.
Recirculation mode

If there are unpleasant odors in the outside air, you can stop it from entering the cabin. In this case, the system will use only the air in the cabin.
If your car has a multi-function steering wheel with a recirculation mode button, you can also control this mode from the steering wheel (refer to Section 1).
If the windows fog up when the recirculation mode is on, turn off the recirculation mode.
Draft-free ventilation

You can adjust the air flow to your upper body according to your wishes.
The grooved wheels 1 allow you to smoothly open and close the deflectors. The levers 2 allow you to change the direction of the air entering the cabin. The grooved wheel 3 allows you to add more or less cold air to the air entering the upper part of the body.
Turn towards the blue marking - cool air.
Turn to red marking - warmer Adjustment of the deflectors in the rear of the cabin is carried out in the same way as described above. The incoming air is not heated.
Microfilter
The microfilter traps dust particles and pollen present in the air taken from outside. It is replaced during maintenance. The need for early replacement of the filter can be determined by a significant decrease in the maximum air supply.
Quick ventilation in summer

1. Use the temperature controls to select a comfortable temperature in the cabin, for example 22°C.
2. Set the air distribution regulator to position.
3. Move the air supply fan regulator to the extreme right position.
4. Open the air vents to supply air to the upper body 5. Set the knurled wheel 3 to the blue marking (cool), refer to above.
Quick warming up of the interior in winter

1. Use the temperature controls to select a comfortable temperature in the cabin, for example 22°C.
2. Set the air distribution regulator to position.
3. Move the air supply fan regulator to the position corresponding to the maximum air supply
4. Close the air vents in the rear of the cabin.
Heating in winter

If the windows are frozen or fogged up, the following installation is recommended.
1. Use the temperature controls to select a comfortable temperature for you, for example 22°C.
2. Set the air distribution regulator to position.
3. Set the air supply fan regulator to the position corresponding to the medium air supply level.
4. Close the air vents in the rear of the cabin.
Defrosting and drying glass
1. Use the temperature controls to select a comfortable temperature in the cabin, for example 22°C.
2. Set the air distribution regulator to position.
3. Move the air supply fan regulator to the extreme right position.
4. Close the air vents in the rear of the cabin.
5. To defrost the rear window, turn on the heating.
