Removal and installation the lower timing belt cover
Attention:
- When working with oil, fuel and coolant circuits, the generator must be protected from contamination.
- Cover the generator.
- Failure to comply with this condition may result in generator failure.
1. Remove the oil pan.
Note: After removing the oil pan, temporarily install the front axle beam in its original position and remove tool 000200.
2. Remove the cylinder head.
3. Remove the torsional vibration damper.
4. Remove the oil seal.
Note: Install a new oil seal only after installing the timing belt cover.
5. Remove the power steering pump drive pulley.
6. Remove the power steering pump from the timing belt cover (leave the pipelines connected).
7. Remove the generator drive belt tensioner.
8. Remove the coolant pump.
9. Remove the generator.

10. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the timing belt cover.

11. Lock the lower hydraulic chain tensioner using tool 113340 (locking pin).
12. Remove the tensioner bar (3).
13. Remove the chain guide (4).
14. Loosen the threaded fastening of the high pressure pump sprocket (2).
Tightening torque: 65 Nm.
15. Remove the chain drive sprockets together with the chain.
Note: When installing, check the centering bushings (arrow) for damage and correct installation.

Note:
- The sealing gasket is supplied only for the timing belt cover together with the water pump.
- When repairing the timing belt cover, cut the sealing gasket in the marked areas.
Note:
- When installing, it is necessary to replace the sealing gasket.
- Apply a thin layer of Drei Bond 1209 sealant to the edges of the sealing gasket (arrow) on both sides.

16. Install the timing belt cover.
17. Insert all bolts and pre-tighten to approx. 5 Nm.
18. Tighten all bolts in a staggered pattern.
Note: Bolts are M7.
Tightening torque: 15 Nm.
Note: Once all bolts are tightened, go over the bolts again and tighten them.
19. Replace the sealing ring.
20. Assemble the engine.
