Replacing the wheel speed sensor (BMW X5 E53)

The front wheel speed sensor must be replaced in the following order: Remove the front wheel. Unlock the SS, remove it from the holder and disconnect the SS.

Remove the cable with the rubber bushing from the mount on the shock absorber strut. Unscrew the bolt (1, Fig. 11.74) with an internal Allen key, disconnect the cable from the holder on the shock absorber strut and remove the ABS+T/DSC system speed sensor.

The installation of the front wheel speed sensor should be carried out in the reverse order, while it is necessary.

Clean the hole for the sensor and lubricate it with consistent grease such as "Staburags NBU 12/K".

Make sure that the shock absorber is securely fixed and that the rubber bushings are positioned correctly.

Tighten the holder bolt to a torque of 8.0 N·m (0.8 kgf·m).

Tighten the wheel mounting bolts to a torque of 140.0 N·m (14.0 kgf·m).

The rear wheel speed sensor should be replaced in a similar manner.
