An important element of the safety of the car are the headlights, lights and lamps.
Front lights and lanterns
To access the headlight bulbs, open the hood and remove the headlight covers (pic. 1.31), on halogen dipped beam headlights, turn the cover (1) counterclockwise, high beam and parking lights - press the tab (2).
High beam headlights use 55W H1 halogen bulbs (pic. 1.32),
H7 halogen lamps with 55 W power in dipped beam headlights (pic. 1.33).
The dipped beam headlights are located on the periphery, the high beam headlights are closer to the axis of the car.
When replacing the high beam bulb, remove the cover, disconnect the LUC, unhook the retaining clip (3).
When replacing the dipped beam bulb, you must remove the cover, turn the bulb holder to the left and remove it. Turn the lamp socket counterclockwise, grasping the base of the socket, replace the lamp, holding it by the base part.
Install a new socket with a lamp on the connector, while monitoring the accuracy of its fit.
Wipe headlight covers with cleaning fluids (special shampoos) followed by rinsing with copious amounts of water. Remove the formed frost with special aerosols for thawing.
Xenon headlights
The xenon headlights of the BMW X5 E53 have an increased service life and high reliability, they can be installed on a car by order or at a service station. They illuminate the road in front of the car, as well as its sides, much better and more evenly than conventional halogen lamps.
Attention! The maximum brightness of the xenon headlamp is reached after approximately 15 seconds, as it's an arc lamp.

All lamps installed in the rear light have a power of 21 watts.
Lantern in the wing
To replace the bulb in the rear wing light, open the cover in the wing, if necessary, lift the trim.
Pressing lightly, turn the chuck (pic. 1.36) bulb counterclockwise and take it out. Similarly, remove the lamp itself and replace it.
Fog lights use 55W H11 bulbs (pic. 1.34).
Lantern in the lower trunk lid
To replace the bulb in the lamp in the lower trunk lid, open the lid and use a screwdriver to detach the shield in the lower trunk lid.
Pressing lightly, turn the chuck (pic. 1.37) bulb counterclockwise and take it out. Similarly, remove the lamp itself and replace it.

Central brake light
The central brake light on the car is made in the form of an LED strip in the rear spoiler. Brake light should only be replaced by a workshop.
License plate light
The license plate light is located in the trunk lid and has a power of 5 watts.
To replace the license plate light, proceed as follows (pic. 1.38).
Insert a screwdriver into the slot and push to the side (arrow), the lamp will come out of the mount. Remove headlight and replace bulb.
Direction indicators
The car has front and side turn indicators (pic. 1.39).
Front direction indicator lamps of type P21 W or PY 21 W have a power of 21 W, side indicators - type WY 5 W or W 5 W, 5 W.
Replacement of a lamp of the lateral indicator of turn is necessary for carrying out in a following order. Press the lamp forward with your finger (see arrow) and take it off. Remove the bulb by pressing lightly on it and turning it to the left. After replacing the lamp, install the cartridge in place until it clicks.
