Attention! When performing maintenance on the battery, take increased fire safety measures. The battery electrolyte is a sulfuric acid solution, dangerous for the skin and paintwork. When disconnecting the battery, always disconnect the "-" wire first and connect it last.
When performing maintenance on the battery, remove the caps and check the electrolyte level in each of its jars. It should be about 5 mm above the plates. If the level is lower, add distilled water and close the jar caps.
- Check the integrity of the rubber protective covers of the AB terminals and the AB housing. If traces of corrosion are found (loose white coating) clean it with a wire brush. The occurrence of corrosion can be minimized by installing oiled felt washers or by applying to terminals and clamps (after their installation) acid-free petroleum jelly.
- Check the condition of the BMW X5 E53 battery tray. Remove traces of corrosion from the tray with an aqueous solution of baking soda. After a while, rinse the applied soda solution with plenty of clean water.
- Check the reliability of the tightening of the bolt of the fastening clamp. When installing the battery, do not overtighten the fastening clamp.
