Replacing the left intake camshaft position sensor (BMW X5 E53)

The left intake camshaft position sensor is located on the cylinder head and must be replaced in the following order. Read information from the DME ECU-KSUD fault memory. Switch off the ignition and remove the soundproofing cover.

Disconnect the SS (1, Fig. 4.129) from the left intake camshaft position sensor on the mounting plate.



Release the cable from the holder (2), unscrew the bolt (3) securing the sensor to the engine cylinder head and remove the left intake camshaft position sensor (4).

When installing the sensor, check the sealing ring for possible damage and replace it if necessary. To facilitate sliding, lubricate the sealing ring with technical petroleum jelly.

Upon completion of the crankshaft position sensor replacement, it is necessary to read the fault information from the memory of the ECU-KSUD of the "DME" system. Eliminate the faults and erase the information from the memory of the ECU.
