Replacing the right intake camshaft position sensor (BMW X5 E53)

The right intake camshaft position sensor is located at the front of the cylinder head next to the oil dipstick tube and must be replaced in the following order.

Read the fault information from the memory of the ECU-KSUD of the "DME" system, turn off the ignition, remove the air supply line.

Disconnect the sensor SS from the right mounting plate, unscrew the bolt (arrow, Fig. 4.130) fastening the sensor to the cylinder head and remove the sensor.

Check the sealing ring for possible damage and replace it if necessary. To facilitate sliding, lubricate the sealing ring with technical petroleum jelly.

Upon completion of the replacement of the camshaft position sensor, it is necessary to read the information about faults from the memory of the ECU-KSUD of the "DME" system, eliminate the faults and erase the information from the memory.
