Replacing the EMC of the left actuating unit of the VANOS system
Removing the solenoid valve (EMC) the left control unit of the VANOS system must be carried out in the following order. Remove the air filter housing, together with the air flow meter, the fan drive clutch with the impeller, unscrew the coolant drain plug on the left side of the cylinder block. Drain and dispose of the coolant.
Press the latch (1, fig. 4.95) and disconnect the coolant hose.
Disconnect the EMC loop and unscrew the bolts (arrows, fig. 4.96) sealing flange.
If necessary, clean the EMC with a clean rag and remove the sealing flange (2).
Note. The sealing flange is mounted on top of the EMC and seals the timing cover.
When removing the EMC, oil drips from under it, prepare a clean rag to collect it.
Using fixture «11.6.420» (pic. 4.97) unscrew the EMC.
The installation of the EMC should be carried out in the reverse order, while the following is necessary.
Clean the EMC and the sealing surface. Using fixture «11.6.420», install EMC (M27x1.5) and tighten it to 25 Nm (2.5 kgf·m).
Check and, if necessary, replace the sealing flange. Lightly lubricate with oil the inner sealing surface of the flange adjacent to the EMC, and carefully push the flange onto the EMC.
Insert and tighten the sealing flange bolts (arrows, see fig. 4.96).
Replacement of EMK of the right executive knot of the VANOS system
Replacement of the EMC of the right actuating unit of the VANOS system should be carried out in the same manner as the left EMC.
