Replacing the EMC of the left actuator of the VANOS system

The electromagnetic valve (EMV) of the left VANOS actuator must be removed in the following order. Remove the air filter housing together with the air flow meter, the fan drive clutch with the impeller, unscrew the coolant drain plug from the left side of the cylinder block. Drain and dispose of the coolant.

Press the lock (1, Fig. 4.95) and disconnect the cooling system hose.

Disconnect the EMC SS and unscrew the bolts (arrows, Fig. 4.96) sealing flange.

Disconnect the EMC SS and unscrew the bolts (arrows, Fig. 4.96) sealing flange.

If necessary, clean the EMC with a clean cloth and remove the sealing flange (2).

Note: The sealing flange is installed over the EMC and seals the timing belt cover.

When removing the EMC, oil drips from underneath it, prepare a clean rag to collect it.

Using the device "11.6.420" (Fig. 4.97), unscrew the EMC.

Using the device «11.6.420» (Fig. 4.97), unscrew the EMC.

The installation of the EMC should be carried out in the reverse order, and the following is necessary.

Clean the EMC and the sealing surface. Using the device "11.6.420", install the EMC (M27x1.5) and tighten it to a torque of 25 N·m (2.5 kgf·m).

Check and, if necessary, replace the sealing flange. Lightly lubricate the inner sealing surface of the flange adjacent to the EMC with oil and carefully push the flange onto the EMC.

Insert and tighten the sealing flange mounting bolts (arrows, see Fig. 4.96).

Insert and tighten the sealing flange mounting bolts (arrows, see Fig. 4.96).

Replacing the EMC of the right actuator of the VANOS system

The replacement of the EMC of the right VANOS system actuator should be carried out in the same order as the left EMC.
