Attention! It is strictly forbidden to replace camshafts without using special tools, due to possible breakage of the camshaft.
The sequence of camshaft removal is not important. Replacement of camshafts should be preceded by measuring the values of axial and radial clearances, which during assembly should not exceed 0.20–0.36 mm and 0.040–0.074 mm, respectively, while the maximum values permissible in operation are 0.45 mm and 0.10 mm, respectively.
The camshafts in the cylinder heads equipped with the VANOS system can be replaced without removing the engine from the car. The position of the cylinder head is determined by the direction of the car's movement, from the rear end of the engine.
