Attention! It is strictly forbidden to replace camshafts without the use of special tools, due to a possible breakage of the camshaft.
The sequence in which the camshafts are removed does not matter. The replacement of camshafts should be preceded by measuring the values of axial and radial clearances, which during assembly should not go beyond 0.20–0.36 mm and 0.040–0.074 mm, respectively, while the maximum allowable values in operation are 0.45 mm and 0, 10 mm respectively.
The replacement of camshafts in block heads equipped with the VANOS system can be carried out without removing the engine from the vehicle. The position of the block head is determined in the direction of the car, from the rear end of the engine.
