Replacing the drive disk of the automatic transmission (BMW X5 E53)

            0

Attention! The role of the engine flywheel on a power unit with an automatic transmission is played by the drive disk, the compensating clutch and the automatic transmission torque converter.

After replacing the drive disk, it is necessary to readjust the position of the crankshaft speed sensor.

The automatic transmission drive disk is removed using the same technological sequence as for the M54 engine, and the 11.2.070 device is used to lock it.

Loosen the mounting bolts (9 pcs., Fig. 4.84).

Loosen the mounting bolts (9 pcs., Fig. 4.84).

It is recommended to unscrew and screw in the drive disk mounting bolts using the "11.4.180" device. Remove the drive disk (2) with the compensating clutch (1) of the torque converter (TC).

The position of the drive disk is fixed with a special (shortened) centering sleeve. The sleeve can only be replaced with a branded part.

Install the drive disk (2, Fig. 4.85) and the compensating clutch (1) of the torque converter.

Install the drive disk (2, Fig. 4.85) and the compensating clutch (1) of the torque converter.

The holes on the coupling (1) and the drive disk (2) must match and be located below each other.

Coat the threaded portion of the new drive disc mounting bolts with engine oil and tighten crosswise in three steps to a final torque of 105 N·m (10.5 kgf·m).
