Removal and installation, door adjustment (BMW 3 Series E36)

Removal and installation of the front and rear doors are carried out in the same way.

Removal

Unscrew the bolt with the hinge sleeve on each hinge using a 10 mm wrench.

Use a screwdriver to remove the retaining clip "2" from your finger.

Knock out pin "3" upwards with a punch, supporting the door brake with a hammer if necessary.

Pull the door out of its hinges and place it on a suitable stand. The height of the stand should be such that the wires from the cable harness are not pulled.

Caution: Do not damage the paint on the door and front wall. For protection, cover with adhesive tape.

Unscrew the frame of the "arrow" connector. Then pull out the connector.



Lift the bracket -upper arrow-. This will disconnect the detachable connection.

Installation

Connect the electrical consumers' connectors and insert the retainer bracket. Insert the connector into the door pillar, screw the connector frame.



Insert the door into the upper and lower hinges, this requires an assistant. The door is started with bolt "3". The door can be re-adjusted by moving the hinges in the slots or by inserting washers into the hinges. When installing the same door, adjustment is usually not required.

Screw a bolt into each loop.

Use a hammer to drive in the door brake pin and secure it with a locking clamp.

Close the door and check whether the gap between the door and the body is uniform; if necessary, loosen the door hinge bolts and adjust the door height using the upper bolts.



Release the locking pin on the B-pillar and move it so that the door is flush with the body, a difference of 1 mm is allowed. Replace worn locking wedges in advance. Tighten the bolts with a torque of 25 Nm.

Note: For worn hinges (the door has increased play in the hinges) in a special workshop, new support bushings can be pressed into the hinges. The hinge part with the support bushing is located on the door on the upper hinge, and on the body on the lower hinge.
