Removal, installation and adjustment of the window (BMW 3 Series E46)
To be able to move the door window with the side airbag removed, it is necessary to briefly disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. As a result, a corresponding entry is made in the fault memory. After completing the work, it is recommended to clear the memory to ensure normal operation of the airbag. Refer to Section Troubleshooting. It is advisable to carry out the work in a service station.
Removal

1. Remove the glass shaft strip "1". To do this, protect the paintwork under the strip with adhesive tape "2". Press the strip upwards out of the window shaft with a plastic wedge "3". In this case, as shown in the illustration, start from the back. In the front part, pull out the strip under the mirror.
2. Remove the door trim and remove the door cover at the rear, refer to the relevant section.

3. Open the window to size A = 140 mm.

4. Unscrew bolt "1" of the rear mount.
5. Unscrew bolt "2" of the front mount.
6. Turn the glass forward and remove it from the window shaft.
Installation
7. Insert the glass from above into the window shaft and secure it to the window lifter with screws "1" and "2".
8. If you are installing an old window, check its ease of movement by moving it up and down. Adjust if necessary.
Glass adjustment

9. Disconnect the rear window lifter bus "1". To do this, loosen the nuts "2" and "3" without unscrewing them. First remove the sealant from the nut "3".
10. Move the glass with the window regulator all the way up.
11. Tighten nuts "2" and "3".
12. Move the glass up and down several times, checking for ease of movement. Repeat the adjustment if necessary.
13. Reinstall the trim, refer to the relevant section.
14. Install the outer strip of the window lift shaft. To help the strip slide better, it is recommended to lubricate it with a soap solution, such as dishwashing liquid. Insert the strip from the front under the mirror, then gradually press it into the shaft from below.
