2. From the 6-cylinder engine, remove the sump, primary camshaft drive chain and flywheel (faceplate), as indicated in chapter 2B.
3. Remove pistons with connecting rods from the engine, as indicated in the previous paragraph. If pistons and connecting rods are not supposed to be repaired. it is not necessary to remove the cylinder head and push the pistons out of the cylinders. The pistons must be pushed up just enough so that the lower ends of the connecting rods do not touch the crankshaft.
Attention! If the cylinder head is not removed, and the pistons are pushed up, make sure that they do not butt into the opening of the valves.
4. Check the end play of the crankshaft as indicated in paragraph 13.
5. On all engines except the 4-cylinder N42 engine, remove the rear crankshaft seal housing (flywheel side) along with gasket (pic. 10.5).
6. From the 6-cylinder engine, remove the oil pump drive chain and, if necessary, the crankshaft sprocket, as indicated in chapter 2B.
7. M43TU 4-cylinder main bearing caps must be numbered 1 to 5 starting at the front of the engine (those. from the side of the timing chain drive). If the lids are not numbered, do it yourself.
8. The main bearing caps on a 6-cylinder engine must be numbered 1 to 7 on the intake manifold side, starting at the front of the engine, i.e. from the timing chain (pic. 10.8). If there are no markings on the lids. number them yourself.
9. On all engines except the 4-cylinder N42 engine. unscrew the bolts securing the covers of the main bearings and remove the covers (pic. 10.9). Remove the liners from the lids and tie them to the lids.
10. On the 4-cylinder N42 engine, the main bearing caps are combined in a common block that serves to reinforce the crankcase. Turn out bolts of fastening of the block of covers and remove it from the engine.
11. On 4-cylinder engines, the thrust bearing, which limits crankshaft end play, can be located on bearing No. 4 or 5. The exact location of the thrust bearing can be determined by the recess under the bushing in the cover block.
12. On a 6-cylinder engine, the thrust bushing is located in the cover of the No. 6 support. Also note that the cover bolts N5 5 hold the oil pickup pipe bracket.
13. Raise the crankshaft from the supports. Be careful - the shaft is heavy.
14. Remove the upper liners from the bores of the supports in the cylinder block and tie the liners to the covers of the corresponding supports (pic. 10.14).
