Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left so that the steering piston is in the upper position, then drain the oil from the steering gear housing.
Loosen and remove the nut securing the medium-thrust ball stud to the bipod. Using a BMW 6082 puller, press the ball pin out of the bipod seat.
Apply paint to the steering shaft to mark the depth of its entry into the flange of the flexible coupling.
Loosen the nut and remove the bolt 1 (see photo). Slide the flexible coupling up the steering column shaft.
Disconnect from the crankcase of the steering mechanism pipelines 2 and 3 of the hydraulic system and plug their openings.
Remove the three bolts securing the steering gear housing to the front suspension cross member and remove the steering gear housing.
