When replacing the steering mechanism, check the installation height of the pendulum arm in relation to the steering shaft. It is not allowed to reuse the drained power steering fluid.
1. Remove the steering wheel (see Section Removal and installation of a steering wheel, the block of an airbag and its slip ring).
2. Remove the engine crankcase and heat shield.
3. Disconnect the power steering lines and plug the open holes with protective caps.
Use new O-rings when installing (D). On models with an M52 engine, the piping must be located 8 ÷ 10 mm from the steering gear - check the accessibility of other components.
4. Give a nut and disconnect a cross steering draft from a bipod of a steering by means of a stripper No. 32 1 190.
Mounting cones must be free of grease when installed. Replace self-locking nut.
5. On models other than those with the M52 engine, remove the steering arm (see Section Removal and installation of steering rods, bipod and pendulum lever).
6. Turn out a bolt and disconnect the universal joint of the lower section of a steering shaft from the steering mechanism.
When installing, the bolt must enter the seat of the steering shaft, and the marks on the mechanism and on the shaft must match.
7. Disconnect the steering gear from the front axle beam.
When installing, fasten the steering gear to the front axle beam first by hand with a bolt (1), and then tighten the bolts sequentially with the required force (2) And (1). Use new self-locking nuts.
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
