When replacing the steering gear, check the height of the pendulum arm in relation to the steering shaft. Reusing drained power steering fluid is not allowed.
1. Remove the steering wheel (see section Removal and installation the steering wheel, airbag unit and its contact ring).
2. Remove the engine crankcase guard and heat shield.

3. Disconnect the power steering lines and plug the open holes with protective caps.
When installing, use new sealing rings (D). On models with M52 engine, the pipe should be located at a distance of 8÷10 mm from the steering gear - check the accessibility of other components.

4. Loosen the nut and disconnect the transverse steering rod from the steering knuckle using puller No.32 1 190.
There should be no traces of grease on the seat cones when installed. Replace the self-locking nut.
5. On models other than those with the M52 engine, remove the steering arm (see section Removal and installation steering rods, steering knuckle and pendulum arm).

6. Remove the bolt and disconnect the lower section of the steering shaft cardan joint from the steering gear.
When installing, the bolt must enter the socket of the steering shaft, and the marks on the mechanism and on the shaft must match.
7. Disconnect the steering gear from the front axle beam.

When installing, first secure the steering gear to the front axle beam by hand using bolt (1), and then tighten bolts (2) and (1) successively to the required force. Use new self-locking nuts.
8. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
