Never lie under a vehicle or start the engine when the vehicle is supported only by a jack.
When changing a tire, the vehicle must be parked on level ground, the parking brake must be fully engaged, and the wheels must be blocked. Set the transmission to the reverse gear (manual) or Park position (automatic). Pry up and remove the decorative cap (if it exists) using the pointed end of a wheel wrench, loosen the wheel nuts by half a turn, leaving them on the wheel until the wheel is raised off the ground.
Place the jack head under the side of the vehicle, making sure it fits into the designated hole (just behind the front wheel, or in front of the rear wheel). Install the wheel brace and turn the handle clockwise until the wheel begins to lift off the ground. Loosen the wheel bolts completely, remove the wheel and install the spare in its place.
Install the wheel bolts and tighten them finger tight. Lower the car by turning the wheel brace counterclockwise. Remove the jack and tighten the bolts one by one diagonally to the required torque. If you do not have a torque wrench, have the bolt tightening torque checked as soon as possible by a BMW dealer or a wheel change specialist. Install the wheel trim.
Towing
It is preferable, however, for any type of transmission to tow the vehicle with the drive (rear) wheels raised off the ground.
To engage the towed vehicle, specially designed equipment should be used, which should be attached to the elements of the vehicle's load-bearing frame, and not to the bumper or bumper brackets. Cable-type towing equipment it is forbidden use on these vehicles.
Compliance with safety rules is one of the most important requirements when towing a car. The parking brake must be released, the transmission must be in neutral. The steering must be unlocked (ignition key in position "1"). Remember that when the engine is off, the power steering mechanism and the brake booster do not work.
