Replacement of rubber-metal hinges (BMW X5 E53)

The replacement of the rubber-metal hinges of the rear axle gearbox must be carried out in the following order.

Prepare the equipment "33.3.231", "33.3.232". "33.3.233", "33.3.234", "33.3.312". "33.3.314", "33.3.315" and "33.4.182". Remove the gearbox and rear axle beam.

Replacing rear rubber-metal hinges

The rear rubber-metal hinges should be pressed out using tools "33.3.314", "33.3.315", "33.3.233", "33.3.234", "33.4.182" and a disk with a nut (1, Fig. 14.23).



Notches (1, Fig. 14.24) before installation, the hinges must be positioned horizontally in the rear axle beam, angle A = 90°±7°.



Lubricate the rubber-metal hinge and the hinge bushing in the rear axle beam with a compound such as Circolight and press in the rear rubber-metal hinge (1, Fig. 14.25) with the help of devices "33.3.314", "33.3.315", "33.3.233", "33.4.182" and nuts (2) with a washer.

Replacing the front rubber-metal hinges

The front rubber-metal hinges should be pressed out using tools "33.3.312", "33.3.314" "33.3.315". "33.3.231", "33.3.233" (fig. 14.26).



Splines (1, Fig. 14.27) before installation, the hinges must be positioned horizontally in the rear axle beam, angle A = 90°±7°.



Lubricate the rubber-metal hinge and the hinge bushing in the rear axle beam and the device with a compound such as Circolight. Insert the hinge into the device "33.3.231", while the spline (1, Fig. 14.28) must match the marking (2).





Insert the device "33.3.232" into the device "33.3.231", while the surface (1, Fig. 14.29) must face the hinge.



Place the rubber-metal hinge so that the marking (1, Fig. 14.30) was directed perpendicular to the vehicle's axis.



Press the front rubber-metal hinge until it stops using the tools "33.3.314", "33.3.315", "33.3.231", "33.3.232" and "33.3.233".
