Changing the oil in the rear axle gearbox (BMW X5 E53)

            0

When restoring the oil level and replacing it in the rear axle gearbox, it is necessary to use only certified brands of oils for hypoid gears, such as:
  • BMW Achsgetriebeoel Syntheik OSP;
  • Dearon BHS;
  • Mobil Gearlube VS 600;
  • BP Energear SHX;
  • Snell Getriebeoel OLS-DMW:
  • Westfalen Fugo BMO;
  • MOTUL HYPO SYNT;
  • Esso Getriebeoel NLS 75W-90;
  • Fuchs TUTAN Gear H 75W-90;
  • Winterschall Getriebefluid BOS.

Before filling the oil, it is necessary to stir it so that the additives are evenly distributed in the oil volume. The filling volume of the dry rear axle reducer is 1.8 l, when changing the oil - 1.2 l (188k) and 1.4 l (215k). The oil in the rear axle reducer must be changed in the following order.

Warm up the oil in the rear axle gearbox by driving 10-12 km at high speed, and place the car on a ramp, inspection pit or lift.

Unscrew the plug (1, Fig. 14.5) drain hole and the plug (2) of the filler hole. Allow time for the oil to completely drain from the gearbox. Dispose of the drained oil.

Replace the sealing rings in the gearbox plugs. Screw in and tighten the drain plug with rectangular cross-section rings to a torque of 65 N·m (6.5 kgf·m), with round cross-section rings – to a torque of 60 N·m (6.0 kgf·m).

Fill with oil until it starts to overflow. Allow excess oil to drain, screw in and tighten the filler plug to the torque specified above.
