Replacing the Interlock system rod (BMW X5 E53)

            0

The steering of a car equipped with an automatic transmission has a locking mechanism - the Interlock system, which locks the automatic transmission when the car is parked and the key is removed from the ignition switch.

The Interlock rod must be replaced in the following order. Remove the gear selector boot. Unscrew the Interlock rod from the gear shift mechanism bracket. Secure the new Interlock rod to the old rod with wire or nylon cord.

Loosen the screws and remove the instrument panel trim. Disconnect the SS from the horn and the SS of the on-board diagnostic system. Remove the lower steering column trim cover.

Unscrew the Interlock system rod (arrow, Fig. 12.55) from the steering column shaft lock. Pull out the old Interlock rod, while pulling the tied new rod through.

Unscrew the Interlock system rod (arrow, Fig. 12.55) from the steering column shaft lock. Pull out…

Adjust the Interlock system traction. Check the operation of the Interlock system.
