Steering connection moments (BMW X5 E53)

            0

Steering gear to the front axle beam (M12, 10.9) – 100 Nm.

Steering gear drain plug – 42 Nm.

Steering gear adjusting screw lock nut – 27 Nm.

Transverse steering rod to toothed rack – 110 – 120 Nm.

Caution! Tie rod end nut – 80 Nm. The tie rod end with a hole for a cotter pin cannot be secured with a self-locking nut.


Tie rod clamp nut – 51 Nm.

Cardan joint with crosspiece and elastic coupling to the steering gear and steering shaft (the clamping screw needs to be replaced):
  • steel hinge, M8, 10.9 – 24 Nm;
  • aluminum hinge, M8, 10.9 – 28 Nm.

Tighten the self-locking nut (M8) of the hexagonal head bolt to the bracket for fastening the steering column adjustment mechanism, with the adjustment lever in the locked position, to a torque of 3.0 N·m.

Steering shaft mounting bracket clamps – 22 Nm.

Airbag, steering column to bracket – 18 Nm.

Steering column to instrument panel – 22 Nm.

Steering column to lever – 14 Nm.

Steering wheel to steering shaft:
  • nut - 80 Nm;
  • bolt – 63 Nm.

Airbag unit II to the steering wheel – 2.0 Nm.

Bracket for mounting the power steering pump to the engine crankcase – 22 Nm.

Pipe connections to the power steering pump and to the steering gear:
  • hollow bolt M10 –12 Nm;
  • hollow bolt M14 – 35 Nm;
  • hollow bolt M16 – 40 Nm;
  • hollow bolt M18 – 45 Nm;
  • union nut – 36 Nm.

Pipe connections to the hydraulic accumulator regulator – 40 Nm.
