Attention! With the dual cardan disconnected, the steering wheel does not have an end position limiter. Unhindered rotation of the steering wheel and failure of the slip ring is possible. Before starting work, set the wheels for straight movement and block the steering wheel shaft by removing the key from the ignition lock.
The steering wheel spoke must be horizontal.
If the steering wheel spoke is warped, then:
- set the wheels for rectilinear movement;
- remove the steering wheel;
- remove the markings on the steering shaft (file);
- put on the steering wheel in the position for driving in a straight line;
- install the steering wheel;
- put a new marking on the steering shaft (core) so that it matches the marking on the steering wheel;
- adjust the steering angle sensor.
The replacement of the double universal joint of the lower section of the steering shaft must be carried out in the following order.
Set the steering wheel to the straight ahead position and remove the key from the ignition. Mark with paint (marker) the position of the dual cardan in relation to the steering shaft and to the steering gear shaft.
Loosen the top clamp screw (1, fig. 12.45) and remove it. Remove the tandem propeller clamp from the steering shaft. Loosen the fixing screws (arrows, see fig. 12.38) bracket and press aside the valves for supplying coolant to the heater.
Remove bottom screw (dark arrow, fig. 12.46) clamp and remove the dual cardan from the steering shaft.
When installing the screws (M8, 10.9) double universal joint and clamp, depending on the material of execution, tighten to a torque of:
- steel - 24 Nm (2.4 kgf·m);
- aluminum - 28 Nm (2.8 kgf·m).
