Attention! When the dual cardan shaft is disconnected, the steering wheel does not have an extreme position limiter. Unhindered rotation of the steering wheel and failure of the contact ring are possible. Before starting work, set the wheels for straight-ahead movement and lock the steering wheel shaft by removing the key from the ignition switch.
The steering wheel spoke must be positioned strictly horizontally.
If the steering wheel spoke is skewed, then it is necessary:
- set the wheels for straight-line movement;
- remove steering wheel;
- remove the marking on the steering shaft (with a file);
- put the steering wheel in the straight ahead position;
- install steering wheel;
- apply a new mark (with a punch) to the steering shaft so that it matches the mark on the steering wheel;
- adjust the steering wheel angle sensor.
The replacement of the dual cardan shaft of the lower section of the steering shaft must be carried out in the following order.
Set the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and remove the key from the ignition. Mark with paint (marker) the position of the dual cardan shaft in relation to the steering shaft and the steering gear shaft.
Remove the upper clamp screw (1, Fig. 12.45) and remove it. Remove the dual cardan clamp from the steering shaft. Unscrew the mounting bolts (arrows, see Fig. 12.38) bracket and push aside the taps supplying coolant to the heater.

Remove the bottom screw (dark arrow, Fig. 12.46) clamp and remove the dual cardan shaft from the steering gear shaft.

When installing the screws (M8, 10.9) of the double cardan shaft and clamp, depending on the material, tighten to the torque:
- steel – 24 Nm (2.4 kgf·m);
- aluminum – 28 N·m (2.8 kgf·m).
