The exhaust manifold of the M62 engine, unlike the M54, is made separately from the neutralizer (see fig. 4.22). The engine has two exhaust manifolds, (1) for cylinders 1–4 and (2) for cylinders 5–8.

Install the sealing gasket so that the bulge of the jumper (if available), was facing the collector.
Apply copper-containing paste such as "CRC" or "Molykote-HSC", replace the nuts (M8) and tighten them to a torque of 23 N·m (2.3 kgf·m).
The design of the exhaust system is shown in Figure 4.151.

The rubber-metal cushions (8) of the rear muffler on the rear axle beam have different colors - gray for the "M54" engine and red for the "M62" engine. All other rubber cushions are black. Do not mix them up.
When installing oxygen concentration sensors in the exhaust gas, apply only a thin and uniform layer of grease such as "Never Seez Compound". The new sensor already has grease applied. Prevent grease from getting on the sensor surface that is in contact with the exhaust gas. Install the sensors with a fastening torque of 50 N·m (5.0 kgf·m).
When installing the exhaust system, replace the self-locking nuts (M7), lubricate them with high-temperature, copper-containing paste such as "CRC" or "Liqui Moly LM-50B-ASC" and tighten them to a torque of 30 N·m (3.0 kgf·m).
