All elements of the exhaust system (OG) connected by bolted, flanged and clamp connections, therefore they can be replaced individually, similar to the elements of the exhaust system for the engine «M54», in compliance with security measures.
Engine exhaust manifold «M62», Unlike «M54», made separately from the neutralizer (see fig. 4.22). The engine has two exhaust manifolds, (1) for cylinders 1-4 and (2) for cylinders 5–8.
Install the sealing gasket so that the convexity of the jumper (if available), was turned towards the collector.
Apply a copper-containing paste to the threads of the studs «CRC» or «Molykote-HSC», replace nuts (M8) and tighten them to 23 Nm (2.3 kgf·m).
The design of the exhaust system is shown in Figure 4.151.
rubber-metal cushions (8) the rear muffler on the rear axle beam have different colors - gray, for the engine «M54» and red for the engine «M62». All other rubber pads are black. Don't confuse them.
When installing oxygen concentration sensors in the exhaust gas, apply only on their threaded part a thin and uniform layer of grease type «Never Seez Compound». The new sensor is already lubricated. Avoid getting grease on the surface of the sensor, which has contact with the exhaust gas. Install the sensors with a fastening torque of 50 Nm (5.0 kgf·m).
When installing the exhaust system, replace the self-locking nuts (M7), lubricate them with high-temperature, copper-containing paste such as «CRC» or «Liqui Moly LM-50B-ASC» and tighten them to 30 Nm (3.0 kgf·m).
