Replacing the air filter element (BMW X5 E53)

The replacement of the air filter element must be carried out in the following order.

Open the clamps (1, Fig. 4.113) air filter housing covers.

Squeeze the retaining ring (2) and disconnect the hose (3).

Remove the replacement air filter element (arrow, Fig. 4.114).

Remove the replacement air filter element (arrow, Fig. 4.114).


Clean the top and bottom of the air filter housing from the inside and install a new replacement air filter element.

When installing, attach the hose (3, see Fig. 4.113) all the way.

The locking ring (2) should snap shut with a distinct click. Check that the cover is closed by slightly lifting the top of the air filter housing.
