Replacing the air duct between the IRV and the throttle body (BMW X5 E53)

The connection of the air flow meter (AFM) to the throttle body is shown in Figure 4.115.

The replacement of the air duct (4) between the IRV (1) and the connecting ring (8) of the throttle body must be carried out in the following order.

Turn off the ignition and remove the soundproofing casing (see fig. 4.26).

Loosen the clamp securing the air duct (4) to the IRV (1) and disconnect the air duct from the IRV.

Loosen the clamp (1, Fig. 4.116) and disconnect the vacuum hose (2) from the air duct.

Loosen the clamp (1, Fig. 4.116) and disconnect the vacuum hose (2) from the air duct.


Press the latch (4) and disconnect the vacuum line (3) from the air duct. Disconnect the vacuum hose (2) from the throttle body.



Installation of the air duct elements should be carried out in the reverse order, while it is necessary.

Check the sealing rings (8 and 2, see Fig. 4.115), between the suction hose (4) and the throttle body (13), the hose (4) and the IRV (1) for damage, replace if necessary.

Place the vacuum tube onto the air duct until you hear a clear sound (click) of the locking ring engaging.
