Adjusting the automatic transmission control unit lever (BMW X5 E53)

The adjustment of the automatic transmission control unit lever must be carried out in the following order. Check the automatic transmission control rod for freedom of movement and set the shift selector to the "P" position. Holding the clamping sleeve (1, Fig. 9.4, "A5S 390R"), loosen the nut (2). Move the shift lever (3) of the control unit forward, to the "Parking" position. Press the rod (4) in the direction indicated by the lower arrow and release the lever.

While holding the clamping sleeve from turning, tighten the nut (2) to a torque of 10 N·m (1.0 kgf·m). Check whether the transmission parking lock mechanism is engaged. The clamping sleeve of the automatic transmission control unit lever of the "A5S 440R" model is shown in Figure 9.7.
