Automatic transmission oil change (BMW X5 E53)

            0

Oil change is carried out only when repairing the automatic transmission or its level is insufficient, which happens extremely rarely. Change the oil in the automatic transmission in the following order. Warm up the oil in the automatic transmission by making an intensive trip of 5-7 km. Set the automatic transmission control selector to the "P" position, remove the stiffening plate if it bothers you. Place a container under the automatic transmission to drain the oil. Unscrew the oil drain and oil filler plugs (1, Fig. 9.3) and drain the oil. The oil takes a long time to drain, don't rush.

Oil change is carried out only when repairing the automatic transmission or its level is…

Install the drain plug with a new gasket, tighten the M16x1.5 plug to a torque of 30 N·m (3.0 kgf·m), tighten the M18x1.5 plug to a torque of 35 N·m (3.5 kgf·m).

Note: Check the oil level in the automatic transmission crankcase when the oil temperature is 30–55°C.

Through the filler plug, using an oil changer or syringe, pour oil into the automatic transmission housing. Pay special attention to the cleanliness of the work performed and the quality of the oil.

Start the engine and set it to idle mode. Press the brake pedal, alternately set the selector lever to all positions, then check the oil temperature, which should be within 30 - 55°C.

With the engine idling, set the selector lever to position "P" or "N". Check the oil level in the automatic transmission crankcase using the BMW (DIS) or MoDiC BMW stand, according to the documentation for the stand.

Signs of too high an oil level are: severe foaming; increased oil temperature when driving at high speed: oil leaking through the automatic transmission ventilation hole.

Signs of too low oil level are: general malfunction of the automatic transmission; automatic transmission valve clicking, foaming.
