Checking the functioning of the INTERLOCK and SHIFTLOCK systems (BMW X5 E53)

            0

Checking the functioning of the "Interlock" systems (Steptronic) must be carried out in the following order. Set the ignition key to position "0" or remove it from the ignition switch, while the automatic transmission control selector must remain in position "P" (parking).

Set the ignition key to the "Ignition" position and press the brake pedal, while the automatic transmission control selector should be free to move to any position.

Set the automatic transmission control selector to all positions except "P", and in none of these positions should the key in the ignition switch return to position "0" and be removed.

Set the automatic transmission control selector to position "P", while the key in the ignition switch can be set to position "0" and removed from the ignition switch.

The operation of the "Shiftlock" systems must be checked in the following order. Turn on the ignition and set the automatic transmission control selector to the "P" or "N" position, press the brake pedal, and the control selector should unlock.

Start the engine, press the brake pedal, when the engine speed is above 2500 min⁻¹ – the automatic transmission control selector should lock in the "P" or "N" position.

Turn on the ignition, set the automatic transmission control selector to the "R" position, the brake pedal is released - when switching directly from the "R" position to "D" and from the "D" position to "R" (when switching through the "N" position), the automatic transmission control selector should not lock. If the control selector is delayed in the "N" position for more than 0.5 sec, it should lock.

The automatic transmission control selector must be locked only in the "P" or "N" positions.

The automatic transmission control selector must not be locked when the vehicle speed exceeds 5 km/h.
