On a vehicle with an M54 engine, unscrew the bolts and remove the fastening clamp for the exhaust pipe of the exhaust system. Holding the clamping sleeve (1, fig. 9.22), loosen the clamping nut (2).
holding the rope (1, fig. 9.23) against turning by the hex head (2), unscrew the nut (3). Remove cable from mounting bracket.
To access the bolts securing the automatic transmission to the drive disk, unscrew the bolt (1, fig. 9.24) and remove the protective cap (2) holes in the bottom of the crankcase.
Take measures to prevent the torque converter from slipping. To do this, in the window of the crankcase of the automatic transmission, with the engine «M54», install fixtures «24.4.131» And «24.4.137» (pic. 9.25), but with the engine «M57», fixtures «24.4.131» And «24.4.135» (pic. 9.26), and tighten it.
Wrap two bolts securing the torque converter to the engine drive disk with a torque of 10–15 Nm (1.0–1.5 kgf·m). Unscrew fixture «24.2.300» (see fig. 9.21) and install the third bolt securing the torque converter to the engine drive plate. Tighten all torque converter mounting bolts crosswise to 45 Nm (4.5 kgf·m).
Connect automatic transmission and engine. Screw in the mounting bolts, together with washers, and first, according to the principle through one, tighten to 20 Nm (2.0 kgf·m). Further tightening of the bolts for fastening the automatic transmission to the engine should be carried out in several stages crosswise, with the final torque indicated above.
