1, 3 - Temperature control rollers for the left and right sides of the passenger compartment
The temperature control mode is switched on and off with a roller on the driver's side.
Left end position - the temperature is not regulated, the supply air is cooled as much as possible.
Rotation from a fixed position to the right - temperature control is switched on.
Right end position (fixed) - maximum interior heating, temperature control does not occur (this position can be used for emergency activation in the event of a malfunction of the electronic temperature control system).
The scales indicate the approximate values of the set temperatures. The selected temperature is reached extremely quickly and, as a rule, should not be changed. Turn the switch gradually to avoid unwanted temperature fluctuations.
2 - Switch and roller for regulating the amount of air supplied
Position 0 - the system is off, the air supply is blocked.
Turn to the right until it locks - the system is on, ventilation is running at minimum capacity. Further rotation to the right - the amount of air supplied increases.
Right end position (fixed) - maximum air supply (this position can be used for emergency activation in the event of a malfunction of the electronic temperature control system).
4, 8 - Keys for switching on the automatic mode of distribution of the supplied air for the right and left sides of the passenger compartment
Air distribution occurs automatically depending on temperature conditions.
Air enters through the heated vents on the windshield and front side windows, through the vents on the instrument panel and in the front doors, and on the upper side of the instrument panel, through the front nozzles into the footwell in the front and rear compartments, and also through the vents in the end of the middle consoles for ventilation of the rear part of the cabin.
After a cold start in bad weather and the temperature of the heating element is below 30°C, the air enters only through the deflectors of the intensive glass heating.
This program satisfies almost all requirements for comfortable interior air conditioning.
For optimal operation of the automatic air distribution system, do not close all the vents located on the instrument panel.
Air intake through all deflectors with automatic distribution of the supplied air turned off.
It is recommended to use in hot weather for ventilation and air cooling in the lower part of the cabin.
Press this key while increasing the fan speed and closing the vents to defog the windshield and side windows in case you do not want to press the key.
Foot air distribution front and rear
The heated glass vents are only ajar and no air is supplied to the dampers at the end of the center console.
It is recommended to use in cold weather, when ventilation is undesirable, and intensive supply of hot air to the legs is necessary.
5 - AUC switch - automatic air recirculation system *
This system recognizes the maximum permissible pollution of the outside air with harmful substances and prevents them from entering the passenger compartment.
Pressing the switch again activates three functions:
- LEDs off - normal mode of fresh air intake;
- the LED on the left lights up - the sensor measures the proportion of harmful substances in the outdoor air; at elevated values of the content of harmful substances in the outside air, the dampers of the fresh air intake nozzles automatically close and the system operates in the recirculation mode;
- the right LED lights up - the recirculation mode is on.
Air recirculation systems
The air recirculation mode is recommended for heavily polluted outside air - the interior air is recirculated in the cabin, which prevents the penetration of polluted outside.
Although in order to improve air quality (e.g. drying) the air conditioner is switched on automatically, the air recirculation mode should not be turned on for a long time.
If the windows in recirculation mode or in AUC mode fog up from the inside, switch to normal operation and press switch 9 of the air conditioner.
6 - Air conditioner switch
When the button is pressed, the air conditioner is switched on in all operating modes, starting from approx. 1°C outdoor temperature. The air cools and becomes drier.
At very high humidity, it is recommended to dry the air by turning on the air conditioner in advance (until the evaporator is covered with condensate), glasses in this case do not fog up. In this case, the cooled air must not be supplied to the windshield, as it may fog up from the outside.
At maximum cooling capacity, the system switches automatically to air recirculation mode (with little fresh air), the defroster nozzles are closed.
7 - The switch for the maximum heating of the windshield and side windows
The fogging of the windows occurs due to the formation of condensate due to temperature differences or too high humidity. Elimination of condensate is achieved only by heating the windows with a large amount of warm air.
When this switch is pressed, the maximum heating of the windshield and side windows is carried out automatically, i.e. no additional action is necessary.
The maximum effect is achieved only when the engine is warm.
After this switch is released, the previous mode of operation is automatically restored.
Keep in mind: the first time the button is pressed after the engine is started, the heated rear window is switched on.
Noises after turning off the engine are caused by operating air dampers - they are set to their original position.
Comfortable driving conditions - thanks to the layered distribution of conditioned air: warm feet - cold head.
Driver and front seat passenger
The temperature of the air supplied through the deflectors on the instrument panel and front doors can be changed by turning the roller 1:
- rotation to the right - warmer
- rotation to the left - colder
Rear seat passengers
Air vents at the end of the center console open and adjust as needed. Through these deflectors exclusively fresh air or - when the air conditioner is on - cooled air enters.
The ventilation of the rear compartment is closed automatically when the ventilation on the driver's side is switched on
- AUTO - (only in cold weather);
- air distribution only through nozzles in the footwell.
Important tips for air conditioner operation:
1. The condensate formed on the evaporator is discharged under the car; its quantity can be up to 2 liters per hour, depending on the humidity of the air.
2. Prophylactically, the air conditioner must be turned on for a short time at least once a month (especially during the cold season). Otherwise, there is a danger that the compression shaft sealant will lose its elasticity, resulting in leakage of coolant.
3. For all air conditioner malfunctions - for example, the absence of cold air when the system is on (adjusting roller or temperature rotary switch on the driver's side in the left end position) - turn it off and contact the BMW service.
Microfilter
Fresh air is sucked in through the microfilter. At the same time, pollen is filtered out by 100%, dust by 60%.
Filter replacement is included in the scope of routine maintenance robots. Reduced air exchange indicates the need for early filter replacement.
