Replacing the air conditioner safety valve (BMW X5 E53)

The air conditioning system safety valve must be removed in the following order. Pump out the R134a refrigerant from the air conditioner, remove the heater partition, the right lower trim of the front panel and the right glove box. If there is a plug connector (PC), disconnect it, release the clamps of the lining (2) of the drawer for small items and remove it.



To facilitate further operations, it is recommended to remove the air conditioner heater. Remove the sound insulation, unscrew the screws (1, Fig. 17.18) and remove the shields (2). Move the air conditioner pipes apart and remove the safety valve (3).

The installation of the air conditioner safety valve should be carried out in the reverse order, while it is necessary to replace the sealing rings of the pipes and pay attention to the correct position of the air duct in the right part of the footwell.
