Replacing the alternator drive belt (BMW X5 E53)

            0

The M54 engine is equipped with three-phase alternating voltage generators from two companies: Baleo (Italy) type A13V118 and Bosch (Germany) type NC 14V 45/140 F, with a built-in rectifier unit on nine rectifier valves, with a nominal output current of 120 A and an electronic voltage regulator with an adjustment range of 13.5–14.1 V. Cooling of the generator is provided by supplying air to it.

To drive the auxiliary units, a two-groove crankshaft hub pulley with parallel grooves, one after the other, is used. The diameter of the alternator belt pulley is 55 mm. To remove the far drive belt, it is necessary to remove the front belt. On the engine, several auxiliary units are driven by one belt at once - the generator, the coolant pump and the power steering pump. For simplicity of presentation, it will be further referred to as the alternator drive belt. The alternator drive V-belt is changed under the same circumstances as the air conditioner compressor drive.

Note: If the drive belt is to be used again, it is necessary to mark its direction of rotation and reinstall it in the same direction.

The alternator drive belt must be replaced in the following order. Remove the viscous fan drive coupling with its impeller. Remove the air conditioner compressor drive belt. Remove the tension roller cover (fig. 3.169).

The alternator drive belt must be replaced in the following order. Remove the viscous fan drive…

Loosen the alternator drive belt tension by inserting a hex key into the bolt slot and turning the tension roller clockwise. Remove the drive belt.

If contaminated with hydraulic fluid, coolant or oil, the drive belt must be replaced. When installing the belt, ensure that it fits tightly into the grooves (grooves) of the pulleys. Unload the tension roller by releasing the Allen key. The tension force is not adjusted by the roller; it will automatically set the required tension force of the drive belt.

Some modifications use a generator drive with an additional tension roller and a hydraulic tensioner.
