Checking engine oil pressure (BMW X5 E53)

            0

Checking the engine oil pressure should be done in the following order. Prepare the tools "11.4.050", "13.3.061", "13.3.063", "13.6.051" and "13.6.054". To remove the oil pressure sensor, prepare a rag.

Place the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface, put the gearshift lever in neutral and apply the parking brake. Protect the generator from contamination.

Unscrew the lid (3, see Fig. 6.11) full-flow oil filter and remove it by moving it upwards, let the oil drain from the filter. Disconnect the SS (6) and remove the oil pressure sensor.

Install the "11.4.050" device with a sealing ring in place of the oil pressure sensor. To check with the "DIS-tester", assemble a test circuit from the "13.6.054" device with a sealing ring (1, Fig. 6.94) and the device "13.6.051" and connect to the DIS tester.

To check with a pressure gauge, assemble a test circuit from the "13.6.063" device and the "13.6.061" device. Restore the oil level, start the engine and let it idle until the oil pressure indicator goes out.

Check the oil pressure according to the instructions for the "DIS-tester" and the pressure gauge readings. Disassemble the test circuit. Install the removed parts, while:
  • replace and lubricate the sealing rings with engine oil (2, 4, 5, see Fig. 6.11) filter caps;
  • tighten the filter cover to 33 Nm (3.3 kgf·m);
  • install the oil pressure sensor (M12x1.5) with a new sealing ring and tighten to a torque of 27 N·m (2.7 kgf·m).

Start the engine, let it idle until the oil pressure indicator goes out. Turn off the engine, wait about 5-10 minutes, and then check the oil level. Replenish it if necessary.
