Replacing the output link seal on the front axle (BMW X5 E53)

The replacement of the output link seal of the RK type "ATS 500" on the front axle must be carried out in the following order. Prepare the devices "23.0.490" and "27.1.420", remove the stiffening plate and the front cardan shaft.

Press out the flange (1, Fig. 10.22) using large screwdrivers (2) and, using a screwdriver, remove the dust cover (16, Fig. 10.1, b). Punch the seal and, using the "23.0.490" tool, knock out the seal.





Press in a new oil seal using tool "27.1.420".

Upon completion of the work, check the oil level in the transfer case and, if necessary, restore it. Check the tightness of the unit.
