- Engage the parking brake; shift lever to neutral position (on an automatic transmission in position P or N);
- turn off, if possible, all current consumers, especially at low temperatures, and keep the clutch pedal depressed;
- DO NOT PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL
If the engine does not start at the first attempt, for example, in a supercooled or warm state, depress the accelerator pedal only halfway.
Also keep in mind: starter start should not be too short, but should not exceed 20 seconds. Release the ignition key as soon as the engine starts.
Restarting the engine - turn the key in the ignition switch to position 0 or 1 before restarting to prevent the starter from turning on while the engine is still rotating.
Repeat the start only after a short pause so that the spark plugs are not thrown.
In severe frost - in order not to overload the battery before a new start, it is recommended to maintain a short pause (approx. 20 - 30 sec.).
BMW 525tds
With a cold engine
Hold the ignition key in position 2 until the orange control lamp goes out "preheating time".
Engage the starter until the engine starts. At extremely low temperatures, turn on the starter for no more than 40 seconds.
Pressing the accelerator pedal has no effect on the starting process.
When the engine is warm
If the orange indicator lamp "preheating time" does not light up, start the engine immediately.
Removal of air from the diesel fuel system
In the case of complete fuel consumption, air from the fuel system, as a rule, should not be removed.
However, if starting is difficult, the starter should be operated for approx. 20 seconds.
The optimum idle speed is set automatically.
The engine should not be warmed up at idle - it is recommended to start immediately at medium speeds.
Engine stop
Turn the ignition key to position 1 or 0.
Economic driving
Fuel consumption depends primarily on driving style car.
- Do not warm up the engine at idle, but start immediately; Avoid prolonged idling of the engine.
- Use first gear only for pulling away and never accelerate in it with "full throttle".
- Switch gears in time and drive the car in higher, more economical gears - third, fourth or fifth.
- Avoid prolonged movement with maximum load.
- Avoid excess weight in the car.
- Keep an eye on the air pressure in the tires.
Also, keep in mind: economical driving reduces harmful emissions of exhaust gases and vehicle noise.
The car should never be left unattended with the engine running - it represents a great potential hazard.
