Removal and installation an automatic transmission (GA 6 L 45 I) assembled



Attention:
  • After completing the work, check the oil level.
  • Use only certified brands of transmission oil.
  • Violation of this rule leads to serious damage to the automatic transmission.


Attention:
  • Do not use steel screws. Danger of electrochemical corrosion.
  • For magnesium housings, use only aluminum screws.
  • After unscrewing, the screws must be replaced.
  • You can distinguish aluminum screws by their blue ends.
  • Strictly observe the tightening torque and angle.


1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Remove the front and rear protection panels of the units together with the brackets.

3. Remove the stiffener plate.

4. Completely remove the exhaust system.

5. Remove the heat-insulating screens.

6. Disconnect the front propeller shaft from the transfer case and lift it off the ground.

7. When removing the gearbox, support the engine with a lift.

8. Remove the screws (1).

9. Remove the bracket and heat-insulating screen.

10. Hang the wires (2).

11. Remove the bracket (3).

12. Disconnect the connector (1).

13. Unscrew the screws (2).

14. Remove the plate (3).

Tightening torque:
  • M10 x 30: 20 Nm+ 90-110°.
  • M12:25Nm + 130°.

15. Remove the aluminum screws on the right side of the cable bracket using tool 009010.

Note: Blue aluminum screws are replaceable.


Tightening torque:
  • M10 x 30: 20 Nm+90- 110°.
  • M12: 25 Nm + 130°.

16. Hold the clamping fork (1) from turning.

17. Loosen the nut (2).

18. Unscrew the screws (3).

19. Remove the rod (4).

Tightening torque: 15 Nm.

Note: When installing, it is necessary to adjust the shift balancer.

21. Disconnect the hydraulic lines (2) going to the gearbox radiator.

Note: O-rings must be replaced during installation.


22. Unscrew the nut (1) and disconnect the oil line mounting bracket from the oil pan.

23. Disconnect connectors (1) and (2) from the servomotor.

24. Support the gearbox using tools 234050, 230132, 002030.

25. Secure the gearbox with a belt (1).

26. Disconnect the propeller shaft from the gearbox.

27. Unscrew the intermediate support.

28. Move the cardan shaft to the side and tie it up.

Caution: Do not allow the driveshaft to hang on the ball joint.


29. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the gearbox mounting cross beam.

Tightening torque: 21 Nm.

30. Turn the engine forward using the vibration damper until the bolt (1) appears in the hole.

31. Remove all torque converter mounting screws using tool 241110.

32. Turning the engine further, unscrew five more screws.

Tightening torque: 56 Nm.

33. Prepare the device (1) 244161 with the attachment (2) 244166.

34. Insert tool 244160 into the gearbox housing hole and tighten it lightly with the screw (1).

35. Tighten and secure the device with the screw (2).

38. Tighten the screw (1).

37. Turn, unlock and disconnect the connector (1).

Caution: Do not touch the pins.


38. Unfasten the cable.

39. Insert tool 242390 into the sealing sleeve.

40. Remove the screws.

Note:
  • When installing, it is imperative to follow the tightening order of the fasteners.
  • Aluminum screws are replaceable.


Tightening torque of steel screws:
  • M8:19 Nm.
  • M12: 66 Nm.

Torque and tightening angle of aluminum screws:
  • M10 x 30: 20 Nm+ 90-110°.
  • M2: 25 Nm + 130°.

  • When installing, tighten the screws to the specified tightening torque.
  • Attach the 009120 tool to the bottom using the 009130 magnets and tighten the blue aluminum screws to the specified angle.

41. Check the correct position of the centering bushings.

Note:
  • When installing, it is necessary to rotate the torque converter so that the hole in the torque converter is aligned with the hole in the compensating clutch.
  • Fasten the flanges of the automatic transmission and the engine.


43. Installation should be carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the above notes.
