To restore the protection of coatings, a number of mastics are used under the general name of autoanticorrosives. All of them are based on bitumen compounds with various fillers in the form of plasticizers and organic solvents. Autoanticorrosives based on epoxy resins and hardeners are in a special row. Work should be carried out at a temperature of +20°C. Rubber-bitumen, bitumen ("Avtoanticor-2"), bitumen-rubber, epoxy-rubber compounds can be recommended as autoanticorrosives. Automotive anticorrosive mastic of the "Bitep" type, rubber-bitumen mastic of the "Elastokar" type, slate mastic of the "MSA-3" type are recommended for use.
As protective preparations for treating hidden surfaces from corrosion, it is recommended to use auto preservatives such as "Movil", "Movil-2" and "Rezistan ML". White spirit and gasoline serve as solvents for them.
To protect and seal welded seams, use a material such as "Plastizol D-4A", which is applied to the primed surface with a brush and left to dry for up to 72 hours. To protect end edges and spot welds, adhesive joints based on rubber adhesives or adhesives such as "Moment" and "88N" are recommended. After applying the adhesive, self-adhesive tape such as "PVC" is glued to the ends and flanges.
Epoxy-caoutchouc paint "EPK-11" provides excellent protection against corrosion and is recommended for interior work in the car body (floors).
To seal any leaks, it is recommended to apply sealant of the type "AG" and "51-17" to the inside of the joints, which must be applied with an overlap of the joint.
The anti-corrosion coating should be restored in the following order. Clean the damaged surface. Remove the remains of peeling mastic and clean the damaged area from traces of corrosion until it has a metallic shine.
Prime the surface to be restored and dry it. Prepare the anti-corrosion compound by thoroughly mixing its components. Add solvent if necessary.
Apply the anti-corrosion coating in 2-4 layers, maintaining a drying interval between each layer from 2 to 7 hours. The final drying time of the entire coating is from 10 to 48 hours. The time depends on the type of coating used and is specified in the instructions for using the autoanticorrosion.
Apply anticorrosive agents at a temperature of 15°C by spraying them with a spray gun. If necessary, these agents can be diluted with white spirit or gasoline.
Before applying anti-preservatives, wash the hidden cavities with water under pressure and dry with hot air. As a flushing agent, it is recommended to use a product such as "Threshold Washer".
To insert spray nozzles into hidden cavities, make holes with a diameter of 9–10 mm, then close them with standard plugs.
The highest protective properties among film-forming oil compositions are possessed by products of the type "NG-216A" and "216B".
Treatment of hidden cavities should be carried out every two years during seasonal use of the vehicle or every year during year-round use.
