Many types of body fillers are produced, but putty with a hardener behaves best in work. In this case, it is only necessary to strictly follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Putty is applied with a flexible rubber or plastic applicator. Mix a small amount of putty on a clean wooden or cardboard surface, use the hardener sparingly.
Puttying must be carried out in the following order. Prepare the metal surface as described above. Prepare putty according to the manufacturer's instructions. Applicator (spatula) apply putty to the damaged area of the body panel. To achieve the desired surface contour and putty level, each stroke of the applicator must pass through the entire surface to be repaired. As soon as the contour of the putty surface approaches the original one, immediately stop applying the putty, because. when it hardens, it will begin to stick to the applicator, forming lumps and leaving scratches on the treated surface.
Apply layers of paste at intervals of about 20 minutes until the level of the putty surface is slightly raised above the surrounding metal of the panel. Allow to dry completely and harden the treated surface.
Remove excess putty with waterproof sandpaper. You need to start with coarse-grained paper like «N-180» and, by progressively reducing the graininess, finish processing with the type «N-600». It is recommended to use imported materials, due to their higher quality abrasive and backing.
To achieve an adequate plane of the machined surface, pre-wrap the paper (or stick) around a wooden block (rubber or foam can be used).
Moisten the paper regularly and abundantly with water during processing. Carry out the work until the absolute smoothness of the treated surface is achieved at the final stage.
At this stage, the finished surface should be a disc or oval of pure, shiny metal, ending in a gradually fading edge of well-preserved paint.
Rinse the treated area with plenty of running water so as to remove the smallest traces of the abrasive formed during grinding.
Dry, degrease and dry the surface again with a hairdryer. Apply a thin layer of primer from an aerosol can, this will reveal all the defects made during grinding.
Identified defects should be eliminated by applying a layer of fresh putty.
Repeat the sanding and sanding steps. Repeat the steps of puttying, sanding and priming until you get a satisfactory result.
Finally, rinse the treated surface with running water and dry it. The surface is now ready for painting.
