Additional functions of the KSUD (BMW X5 E53)

            0

Additional functions of the KSUD are self-diagnostics, monitoring the maximum permissible engine crankshaft speed, controlling the purge of the adsorber, turning on the fuel pump and heating the oxygen sensor in the exhaust gas, monitoring the battery voltage, communication with other systems such as ABS-ASC+T or EDC; AGS; RDC; ride height regulator; rain intensity sensor; passive heat accumulator; airbags and a number of other systems.

The self-diagnostic system detects malfunctions in the ECU-KSUD operation and enters them into memory as codes. If the coolant temperature sensor, air temperature sensor, air flow sensor are faulty, the system switches to operation based on average values embedded in the engine control program. Reading codes at a service station allows you to quickly identify the cause of the malfunction and eliminate it. As soon as the engine shaft speed reaches its maximum value, the ECU-KSUD command interrupts the fuel supply to the engine cylinders by disabling the injectors.

Fuel vapors cannot leave the fuel tank without passing the adsorber. The electromagnetic valve of the fuel tank ventilation is controlled depending on the engine condition. Gasoline vapors formed in the fuel tank accumulate in the adsorber and are fed through the electromagnetic valve into the combustion chamber and burned. The adsorber purge valve operates cyclically and is controlled by the ECU-KSUD depending on the engine operating mode. While the valve is under voltage (more than 10 V), the pipeline leading to the intake manifold is closed. When the voltage is removed from the valve, it can open under the influence of the vacuum in the intake manifold.

The fuel pump is switched on via a relay, which closes its contacts upon a signal from the ECU-KSUD when the starter starts cranking the engine shaft.

For communication with other control units, the ECU-KSUD has a special data bus for exchanging information between systems. Such a bus ensures high efficiency and a high level of protection for the vehicle in the event of failure of individual devices, and also reduces the number of conductors in the cable harness.
