Checking the cylinder head for leaks (BMW X5 E53)

The cylinder head of the engine must be checked for leaks in the following order.

Prepare the equipment "11.9.430", "11.9.431", "11.9.432" and "11.9.433" to work. Remove and disassemble the cylinder head. Place the "11.9.431" devices on the sealing surface of the cylinder head and screw them with bolts (device "11.9.433)" to the cylinder head.

Plug the cooling cavity opening with the tool "11.9.432" and tighten its fastening. Connect the hose (1, Fig. 5.62) compressed air source with a pressure gauge to the cylinder head.

Immerse the cylinder head in a bath of water, if necessary reduce its hardness with detergents. Apply a test pressure of 4.5 bar (kgf/cm²), and check the tightness of the cylinder head for cracks in the walls, by the appearance of air bubbles.
