- The springs of the exhaust valves and intake valves are different. They are installed with a larger diameter towards the cylinder head. Incorrect installation of the springs leads to engine damage.
Replacement of all valve springs should be carried out using technology similar to the "M54" engine. In this case, it is necessary to remove the support bridge (23, Fig. 5.12) together with the intake camshaft and install on the "11.9.470" tool.
Remove the exhaust camshaft and center the "11.0.346" tool (Fig. 5.93) along the valve axis. Press on the upper plate, compress the valve spring and remove the crackers. Smoothly release the lever, remove the plate and remove the valve spring.
The springs (2) of the exhaust valves are approximately 4.0 mm longer (Fig. 5.94) than the springs (1) of the intake valves. The springs have a color designation - marking (3), which is applied to the lower end of the valve spring. The valve springs should be installed so that the larger diameter faces the cylinder head.
