Windshield wipers are controlled by a lever switch (see fig. 1.26), located on the steering column, to the right of the steering wheel.
Lever type windshield wiper drive (1, fig. 16.9) located in a niche under glass.

The windshield wiper and washer are controlled by an electronic module, depending on the speed of the car and the intensity of the windshield getting wet (rain). When the vehicle is stationary, the frequency of the wiper blades is the lowest, as the speed of the vehicle increases, the frequency increases. Optionally, a system of automatic control of brush movement intervals - AIC can be installed (automatic interval control).
The procedure for removing and installing turn switches and wipers is identical. The procedure for removing the switch is described in the Manual using the turn signal switch as an example. When using the above material, you must also refer to the section «Steering».
During operation, the wiper blades wear out, and the washer nozzles become clogged. You can replace both the entire wiper blade, and only its tape. Cleaning the windshield washer nozzles requires their removal. When adjusting the direction of the jets, it is necessary to use the BMW-4850-1 tool or a special pin with a diameter of 0.8 mm, slowly turning it to the right / left.
