The sleeves are installed during the block manufacturing process and cannot be replaced. The angle of inclination of the in-line engine block is 30°, to the right. Bottom Block (crankcase) seven bearing sockets were made for installing the crankshaft main bearing shells. The main bearing caps are finished together with the cylinder block, so they are not interchangeable. In case of wear or minor damage, the cylinder bore can be restored by grinding and honing in a workshop, followed by the installation of intermediate or repair size pistons.
The parameters of the cylinder block of the M54 engine are given in table 3.2. The diameter of the cylinders is measured by an inside gauge in three zones in mutually perpendicular directions, at a distance of 10 mm from the upper and lower edges and in the center of the cylinder mirror.
