The liners are installed during the block manufacturing process and are not subject to replacement. The inline engine block tilt angle is 30°, to the right. In the lower part of the cylinder block (crankcase), there are seven bearing seats for installing the crankshaft main bearing shells. The main bearing caps undergo final processing together with the cylinder block, so they are not interchangeable. In case of wear or minor damage, the cylinder mirror can be restored by grinding and honing in a service station, followed by installation of intermediate or repair size pistons.
The parameters of the M54 engine cylinder block are given in Table 3.2. The cylinder diameter is measured with a bore gauge in three zones in mutually perpendicular directions, at a distance of 10 mm from the upper and lower edges and at the center of the cylinder mirror.
