Replacing the full flow oil filter (BMW X5 E53)

Replacing the full-flow oil filter(1, see Fig. 3.16) the assembly must be carried out in the following order.

Remove the air intake housing together with the air flow meter. Remove the oil filter cover (4) and allow the oil to drain into the oil pan (29). Remove the generator.



Using a clean syringe, empty the power steering reservoir. Remove the power steering reservoir, with the lines still connected, and secure it to the body with a wire clip. Remove the power steering pump, with the lines still connected, and secure it to the body with a wire clip. If necessary, remove the alternator drive belt tensioner.

Disconnect the shock absorbers from the oil pressure indicator sensor (11) and from the oil temperature indicator sensor (10). Disconnect the oil line (30, see Fig. 3.63) the actuator of the D-VANOS system from the oil filter housing.

Replace the sealing gasket (5, see Fig. 3.16) and install a full-flow oil filter.

Restore oil level.
