Replacing the transmission lock lever (BMW X5 E53)

            0

The design of the transmission lock when parked in the A5S440Z automatic transmission is shown in Figure 9.77.

The replacement of the transmission lock lever on the parking position of the automatic transmission type "A5S440Z" must be carried out in the following order. Remove the heat-insulating screens. Prepare a support from the devices "00.2.030", "24.5.301" and "24.0.250" and support the automatic transmission with it.

Remove the frame crossmember assembly, the automatic transmission oil pan and the speed sensors. Loosen the bolts (8) and disconnect the protective plate (7) of the connecting lever (3) from the automatic transmission pan. Remove the plate.

Unscrew the threaded plug (5) with the sealing ring and pull the pin (4) out. Remove the spring (2) and the parking transmission lock lever (3) (automatic transmission selector in position "P").

When installing the locking lever (3), it is necessary to position the spring (2) with the long end towards the lever (3). Check the sealing gasket of the threaded plug (5) and, if necessary, replace it. The plug (5, M12x1.5) tighten to 23 Nm (2.3 kgf·m).

When installing, the connecting rod (2, Fig. 9.78) must fit into the groove on the locking lever (3).

When installing, the connecting rod (2, Fig. 9.78) must fit into the groove on the locking lever…

Tighten the screws (M6) securing the protective plate to a torque of 10 N·m (1.0 kgf·m).
