Attention! Store the removed torque converter (TC) in a vertical position.
Prepare a container to collect the transmission oil that flows out when removing the gtkm.
Automatic transmission type "A5S 440Z"
The torque converter (TC) of the A5S 440Z type automatic transmission must be replaced in the following order. Remove the automatic transmission, prepare the "24.4.000" and "00.2.550" tools. Screw the "24.4.000" tool into the sockets on the TTC (Fig. 9.75). Remove the TTC, collect the leaked oil and send it for disposal. Set the removed TTC aside in a vertical position.

When installing the GTCM, make sure not to damage the sealing ring and bearing. Install the GTCM on the input shaft of the automatic transmission and push it in to the first stop.
Press the GTCM into the automatic transmission housing with your hands and turn it so that the GTCM hub groove engages with the oil pump drive rod. In this case, the GTCM will noticeably move inside the automatic transmission housing.
Attention! If the torque converter is installed incorrectly, then when connected to the engine, the automatic transmission will be disabled due to damage to the oil pump drive shaft linkage.
Using the device "00.2.550" (Fig. 9.76), check the distance between the mating plane and the surface of the threaded hole of the GTCM (installation depth of the GTCM), which must be equal to or greater than 25 mm on all four supports.
Upon completion of the work, check the oil level and, if necessary, restore it.

The replacement of the GTCM of the automatic transmission types "A5S390R" and "GA6HP26Z" should be carried out in an illogical order, while the installation depth of the GTCM should be more than 30 mm on all three supports for the automatic transmission "A5S390R" and 25 mm for the automatic transmission "GA6HP26Z".
