Cylinder head overhaul (BMW X5 E53)

            0

Before disassembling the cylinder head, it is necessary to prepare the tools "11.9.000", "11.9.001", "11.9.009", "11.9.011" and "11.9.015". The cylinder head must be disassembled in the following order. Remove it from the engine and unscrew the glow plugs using new or modified tools "11.6.050".

Unscrew the exhaust manifold mounting nuts in sequence from the edge to the middle and remove it.

Install the cylinder head on the "11.9.000" tool (mounting frame) and secure with standard bolts. Install the "11.9.008" tool (Fig. 6.71) with the flat surface on the cylinder head from the combustion chamber side. Insert the "11.9.006" tool and secure it with the "11.9.005" tool. Secure the cylinder head to the "11.9.001" tool.

Install the cylinder head on the «11.9.000» tool (mounting frame) and secure with standard bolts.…

Attach the valve puller "11.9.015" to the lever "11.9.009". Press on the valve and hook it with the device "11.9.011". Remove the oil seals, crackers and valve springs in the same way as for petrol engines. Arrange the removed valves and their components strictly according to their cylinder numbers.

The cylinder head should be assembled in the reverse order, while it is necessary to check the valve guide bushings for wear, replace all oil scraper caps and exhaust manifold gaskets with new ones. Tighten the installed glow plugs to a torque of 18 N·m (1.8 kgf·m). Lubricate the threads of the mounting studs with copper-containing paste such as "CRC" or "Molykote-HSC" and assemble the engine.
