If there is a system «ARS», unscrew the nut (1, fig. 6.135) and remove pressure pipes (2). Remove bolts (3) and remove the holder (4).
Loosen the nut and disconnect «+» AB wire from the starter. Loosen the starter mounting bolts. Pull the starter slightly forward from the transaxle support and rotate it so that the control circuit wires on the starter can be easily accessed. Loosen the nuts and disconnect the control circuit wires from the starter.
Installation of the starter should be carried out in the reverse order, while it is necessary to tighten the wire fastening nuts with a torque:
- M5 - 5.0 Nm (0.5 kgf·m);
- M6 - 7.0 Nm (0.7 kgf·m);
- M8 - 13.0 Nm (1.3 kgf·m).
Tighten the starter mounting bolts to the gearbox housing to a torque of 45 Nm (4.5 kgf·m). When installing, check drive gear and starter ring gear for damage, replace starter if necessary. Replacing the starter retractor relay should also be carried out using a technology similar to engines «M54» … «N62». When installing the traction relay, it is necessary to tighten the wire fastening nuts to the torque given above.
Attention! When tightening the nuts, do not allow the cable lug to turn, because there is a danger of a short circuit to the starter housing.
When replacing «+» wires between the generator and the starter in the engine compartment must be:
- nut on alternator «D+» tighten torque 7.0 Nm (0.7 kgf·m), and the nut «B+» – torque 13 Nm (1.3 kgf·m).
- tighten the M5 nut on the starter to a torque of 5.0 Nm (0.5 kgf·m), nut «M6» – torque 7.0 Nm (0.7 kgf·m), and the nut «M8» – torque 13.0 Nm (1.3 kgf·m).
