Attention! When working on the cooling, lubrication and fuel systems, protect the generator by installing a screen in the form of a polyethylene film.
The generator replacement must be carried out in the following order. Loosen the clamp of the "minus" wire from the battery terminal, remove it and insulate it. Remove the fan casing, the air conditioner compressor drive belt and the generator. Remove the front panel of the engine auxiliary mechanisms protection and the left turbocharger hose.
Disconnect the SS from the generator and remove the protective cap of the "+" wire of the battery on the generator. Unscrew the nut and remove the "positive" wire of the battery from the generator.
Remove the bolt (1, Fig. 6.134) and remove the guide roller (2) of the generator belt. Unscrew the bolts (3) securing the generator.

Remove the generator (4) by moving it upwards when equipping the vehicle with the system "Dynamic Drive" the generator is removed by moving it downwards. If necessary, unscrew the bolts and remove the generator support bracket.
The generator installation should be carried out in the reverse order, while it is necessary to tighten the nut "+" of the battery wire with the torque: M6 (+D) - 7.0 N·m (0.7 kgf·m) and M8 (+B) - 13.0 N·m (1.3 kgf·m). The generator contact "30" additionally supplies power to the pre-heating control unit, check its connection. Assemble the engine and check the operation of the "DDE" system.
The generator pulley and voltage regulator should be replaced using the same technology as for engines "M54"... "N62", while the pulley mounting bolt must be tightened to the following torque:
- valeo generator – 75 N·m (7.5 kgf·m);
- bosch generator – 65 Nm (6.5 kgf·m);
- generator with liquid cooling system – 80 Nm (8.0 kgf·m).
The generator and voltage regulator should also be tested using the same technology as for the M54…N62 engines.
